Put 3 teaspoons of ground filter coffee in the top chamber of a South Indian coffee filter, spread it evenly, and set the pressing disc on top.
Bring 1 cup of water to a boil and pour it into the top chamber until it is about three-quarters full. Cover and let the decoction drip through for 10-12 minutes.
Bring ¾ cup of whole milk to a boil. Divide 4 teaspoons of sugar among the tumblers, strain ¼-⅓ cup of hot milk into each, and add ¼-⅓ cup of decoction.
Pour each coffee back and forth between its tumbler and a davara (a wide steel bowl) two or three times until frothy, and serve hot.
