Steps
- Mix 2 cups of all-purpose flour, ¼ cup of sugar, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, and ¼ teaspoon of salt. Rub in ¼ cup of softened unsalted butter until sandy.
- Stir in 1 cup of milk and ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract to form a smooth, soft dough. Bring 540ml of maple syrup and 1 cup of water to a boil in a large wide saucepan.
- Scoop the dough into 2-tablespoon portions and drop into the syrup. Cover, reduce the heat, and simmer gently for about 15 minutes, until the dumplings are cooked through. Spoon over the syrup.
